Makzia

Collective joining the co-curated day programme.

MAKZIA is a queer Georgian cultural & political festival, born as a collective response to the violence against queer people and the planned Pride March in Tbilisi, Georgia, on 5.07.21. The festival raises awareness of current social and political realities in Georgia and builds connections to international struggles surrounded queer visibility and social justice. Rooted in memory, resistance and solidarity, MAKZIA brings together art, culture and community. Its name comes from Georgian folklore, referring to a liminal being between human and animal, becoming a metaphor for transformation and resistance to political pressure.
